1- Park Avenue Office — privacy and openness with a distinct sense of place
Five modest financial services firms are housed in this Midtown Manhattan office suite. Because these companies work both independently and together, the full-floor workplace was designed to strike a balance between seclusion and openness.
Rich materials like walnut wall panelling, dark terrazzo, leather hand handle, and sheer wool drapes, which draw on the history of modern design, give the space a residential sense and serve as a sophisticated backdrop for the group’s art and vintage design collection.
2- 21c Chicago — a revitalized hotel with a jolt of contemporary culture
Visitors are greeted by a new double-height lobby with a characteristic staircase leading to the meeting and conference rooms above. In this 24-hour accessible public space, a sculptural sofa invites guests and visitors to relax. In keeping with 21c’s perspective that culture and hospitality compliment each other and contribute to the vibrancy of metropolitan regions, contemporary art is interwoven throughout the public areas.
3- 40 East End — Upper East Side residences grounded with texture and craft
In a city that is increasingly defined by anonymous glass buildings, Deborah Berke Partners designed 29 residences in a distinctive, precisely crafted building that is grounded in the East End Avenue region of the Upper East Side. The building’s textured charcoal and grey brick façade, as well as an attractive, stepped profile, give it a timeless, rooted aspect that fits nicely with the neighbourhood’s family-friendly vibe. We designed a unifying vision for the building, inside and out.
4- 21c Kansas City — a 21st Century hospitality experience in a landmark with deeply layered history
The design team for 21c Kansas City was faced with a unique challenge: how to adapt a cherished local icon with a rich history into a 21st-century hospitality experience. The Savoy Hotel, which opened in 1888, has been expanded over the years and now has an eclectic mix of Victorian and Arts and Crafts architectural details, finishes, and murals, as well as 20th-century historical markers and other components.
5- High Line Office — flexible and light-filled
Within the open-plan room, a sequence of discrete sliding doors enables for intimate gatherings. Polished concrete floors and floor-to-ceiling windows surround panoramic views of the city and give the entire office a sense of sophisticated expertise.
