Bill Bensley was born a stone’s throw from Disneyland in Orange California at a time when orange groves actually thrived mile after mile. Of English parentage, Bensley, a tail end baby boomer, enjoyed his childhood tending the local farms and fruit orchards, as one did in those good days. Bill’s english sister, Ann, remains best friends and often vacation together.
Since 1984, Bensley has been designing resorts throughout Asia and the world. From 1984 to ‘89 Bensley was the lead designer and MD for an American company and was happily based in Singapore and Hong Kong. He then, at the young age of 30, hung up his own signboard in a parking lot in Bangkok and Bensley Design Studios was born. 1989 was a great year as he also met Jirachai, his long term guiding light. The Bali Branch of Bensley Design Studios opened shortly afterwards in 1990.

Bensley’s work has earned him numerous titles such as “1 Spa Designer in Asia” and “King of Exotic Luxury Resorts”. He has been mentioned as one of the world’s top 100 designers by both Time Magazine and Architectural Digest, but the title Bensley values most is philanthropist. Six years ago, he developed Shinta Mani, a hotel school in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where underprivileged students from surrounding villages are offered a one-year education in hospitality completely free of charge.
Despite the notion that Bensley and team are now considered firm leaders in the field of hospitality design, Bill still believes that nothing they have done is that good and that their best work is yet to appear!

We’re totally down with Kelly Wearstler’s eccentric interiors, the designer brings her fiercely glamorous approach—high-octane patterns, gleaming metallic surfaces, and spirited colors.

Kelly has been widely celebrated in the media for her visionary work, brought to life through her fearless use of vibrant color, and unexpected textural juxtapositions. Over the past decade her take on the Hollywood Regency style has spawned legions of imitators, who continue to gravitate to her inspired mix of graphic patterns, luxe textures, and eye-popping hues.

Originally built in 1949, Avalon Beverly Hills underwent its initial renovation in 1999 and merged Kelly Wearstler’s dramatic style with the glamorous nostalgia of mid-century design. For the hotel’s 10-year anniversary, the designer has re-imagined the space, deftly blending its old Hollywood roots with a distinct 1950s vibe.

Kent: “I told the architects that they must come up with a unique design. They had to create something new that you couldn’t find anywhere else in the world.” And thus it was born the idea of tree hotel which is one of the best hotels in Sweden with the most different rooms around the world.
This is a tree hotel in the far north of Sweden, near the small village of Harads, close to the Arctic Circle. This has a shelter up in the trees; a lightweight aluminium structure hung around a tree trunk and a 4x4x4 meters box clad in mirrored glass. The exterior reflects the surroundings and the sky, creating a camouflaged refuge. The interior is all made of plywood and the windows give a 360 degree view of the surroundings.
The construction also alludes to how man relates to nature, how we use high tech materials and products when exploring remote places in harsh climates (Gore-tex, Kevlar, composite materials, light weight tents, and others).
The functions included provide for a living for two people; a double bed, a small bath room, a living room and a roof terrace. Access to the cabin is by a rope bridge connected to the next tree.

The tree houses are all so different. Your choice will depend on your mood. If you want to be free and alone, you stay in the Bird’s Nest because nobody can reach you up there. You can pull up the stairs with a remote control and you are free like a bird. It’s only got a small window but it’s great do some deep thinking. The Blue Cone has the biggest window with the best views and it’s the only one overlooking the river.
The Cabin is perfect for a couple, for a honeymoon maybe. The architecture of the room it is lovely. It has big bed in the center of the room where you can see nature outside from your pillow. It’s the biggest tree house with 24 square meters and has a big open terrace on the roof.
The Mirrorcube is very unique. It fits everywhere, because wherever you put it in the forest, it’s just the reflection of its surroundings, a reflection of nature.
Perched high on a hill in the rustic wine country of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, 20 luxury cabins has unobstructed views of the valley. On the private wooden terraces, guests can sit under a blanket of stars and sip regional wines while being warmed by a roaring fire. Minimal and understated the cabins may be, but modern comforts and deluxe touches have not been overlooked. Monochromatic and with an edited selection of furnishings, they provide comfortable spaces for retreat. From the pool, guests can soak up the calming solitude, while gazing out over the vast expanse. And although the location is remote, the onsite restaurant and bar ensure every comfort is met.
The resort hotel interior design was created by architect Jorge Garcia. The resort’s EcoLofts sit on stilts and offer panoramic views of sun, sand and surf. Each EcoLoft is made with a Corten steel facade, which will rust over time to blend in beautifully with its natural surroundings. Amenities include a bathroom, terrace, traditional clay chiminea (fire pit), and views of the mountain wineries below.

The resort offers an onsite restaurant and bar, a communal pool and hot tub, and guests have access to slow food events, wine tours, and the Culinary Arts School of Tijuana, among many other activities. “… And each time I roam, Chicago is calling me home, Chicago is why I just grin like a clown – It’s my kind of town…” (by: Sinatra)
Chicago has a ton of buildings to marvel at. For example you can see: the Chicago Avenue Pumping Station, Chicago’s home Insurance Building, The Chicago Merchandise Mart, Marina City, the John Hancock building and the Buckingham Fountain. To ensure a perfect stay, you can choose within these five boutique hotels with distinctive and charming features.
Public may leave behind the velvet-rope aspect of the first generation of boutique hotels, but it holds onto Schrager’s trademark expressiveness, that emotional investment that makes a hotel feel like more than just a machine for lodging. Here a little design (by the likes of Yabu Pushelberg and Gabellini Sheppard) goes a long way. The spaces are theatrical, but subtly so, less like art installations and more like stylish backdrops for guests’ memories. It’s a timeless style that seamlessly blends the classic and the contemporary — this building’s got plenty of architectural history, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Pump Room restaurant boasts an impressive collection of black-and-white celebrity portraits.
Thompson boutique-hotel has equal parts classic, eye-catching modernism, luxe yet attainable comforts, and inviting, magnetic public spaces, where travelers and locals meet and mingle over a cocktail or a meal. The look is sharp and fairly sunny, the vibe is hip but not exclusionary, and the details are thoughtful enough to remind you that hospitality is best handled with a personal touch. The best rooms look out over Lake Michigan, but the city view’s far from shabby, and all are framed by the Thompson’s typically sharp interior design.

Something richer than the average boutique, and more stylish than the typical luxury hotel — that’s the idea behind the James. The rooms are swanky, in a restrained way, furnished with familiar designer pieces and rescued from the edge of minimalist boredom by an edge of decadence — vast TV screens, rich fabrics, top-flight entertainment centers and lush modern spa-style bathrooms.
The Talbott Hotel, on Chicago’s Gold Coast, is a throwback to another era, in this case the 1920s, a time before multinational hotel chains, superstar designers, indeed decades before the very invention of the concept of the boutique hotel. This classic recalls the era when this was the capital of the West. However, it’s been renovated since then, which is good news, but fortunately none of the character of the place has been sacrificed: it’s still a hybrid of old Chicago charm and pan-European sophistication, thanks to a collection of hand-picked antiques.

The newest incarnation of the Lincoln puts a slightly tweedy, slightly irreverent, almost collegiate spin on modern hotel design, and it’s a style that feels right at home in the Second City. The hotel’s 184 guest rooms are parceled out within the horseshoe-shaped building to maximize lake views. Interiors feature a quirky selection of works from local artists (including Jeff Koons–inspired squirrels) to enhance the cheery, laid-back atmosphere. This is a truly Midwestern take on the urban boutique — rather than overwhelm guests with aggressively cutting-edge décor, it’s content to remain understated in its stylishness.

Hilton London Bankside will feature 292 luxury bedrooms & suites, a leisure club with pool, conference facility and a 750 person ballroom, and the introduction of a coffee shop – to enliven the street frontage.
The building has been designed by Dexter Moren Architects. The hotel was conceived with two adjoining forms, one low and one tall, relating to existing and proposed neighbouring buildings. The two forms are linked by an internal lightwell and a glazed entrance, which echoes the urban character at the junction of Farnham Place and Great Suffolk Street.
The hotel’s layered brick, metal and glass façade is designed to create a contemporary insertion into the building typology of the locale whilst retaining a common material language with the area.
