Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is acclaimed for the best safari game drives and abundant year-round wildlife. The famous annual migration features more than two million wildebeests and 250,000 zebras. The Serengeti is also a great place for viewing “the Big Five” must-see animals for every African safari: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinoceroses – with the big cats and elephants in particular abundance.
Yes, the Four Seasons Serengeti Lodge is the epitome of luxury. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t right in the middle of the kind of action you want to experience when you visit one of the world’s premier game reserves.
The property: The 77 guest rooms, suites, and villas feature contemporary African décor along with mosquito netting-draped four-poster beds, air conditioning, and high-speed Internet access. Many of the rooms contain a private, open-air sun deck and a plunge pool overlooking the plains and a watering hole that receives frequent visits from elephants, zebra, giraffe, and lions.
To give some indication of the level of luxury offered here, this is the property where the Tanzanian president, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, stays when he is on vacation.

First impressions by Jo Piazza: I should have locked the door. Everyone working at the lodge had told me to keep the door locked. I didn’t listen to them. So it shouldn’t have come as a surprise when I woke to find a medium-sized baboon sitting on my dresser, watching me sleep, and eating the sugar from my coffee tray.
I threw up my arms in fright. He did the same. Two thoughts went through my mind. Would he attack me? And then, I should be taking a video — this could go viral.
My new friend invited his buddies to the party, and as the train of monkeys marched through the door as though they owned the place, I made a command decision. Knowing little about what makes baboons tick, I used an old trick a camp counselor once taught me about what to do if you encounter a bear in the woods. I stood on the bed and made myself as large as possible and emitted a noise — half-roar, half-bellow — that showed I was not going to be held hostage by a gang of monkeys in my luxury hotel room. They looked at me with rightful skepticism. One of them picked up a bag of artisanal, small-batch coffee that I had bought near Mount Kilimanjaro, tucked it under his arm, and sauntered back into the Serengeti.

Blending tradition with modern comfort, the guest rooms at Hôtel Fouquet’s Barrière are decorated by famous designers. Floating and Submarine Hotels Could Be Coming Soon – The next hotel trend is forming quite swimmingly. In the past weeks, two potential resorts have announced plans to create floating and submarine hotels, blowing just about every room with an ocean view out of the water. And following this trend, Hotel Interior Designs wants to show you the Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel, a completely submerged 28 feet under water that received patent and trademark approval. Take a look!

Across the Atlantic, a London designer released his concept for a “floatel” that moves with the ocean’s waves. Coasting along the top of the water, the resort is made up of little pods, channeling an ultra-modern outer-space-turned-marine design, and would move slower than the average boat.
Not only is the submarine hotel a novel concept, it helps the environment, too, and is part of a coral reef restoration project around the world. Costing just less than $20 million to build, the hotel would pass an electric current through seawater, which encourages the formation of white limestone (calcium carbonate) structures, which in turn attract coral.
Technically classed as a vessel, the underwater hotel will be able to change location in case of storm, and its developers have already reached out to a number of Caribbean countries potentially interested in temporarily hosting the unique travel experience. Each guest room will have panoramic views of the surrounding oceanic environment.

The Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel may be closer to coming to fruition, but the floating hotel offers cruise-lovers the best of both worlds. Called the MORPHotel, designer Gianluca Santosuosso expects it will cover a half-mile and will comprise connected pods, each housing different amenities like a helipad, restaurants, guest rooms, and even a pool.
That’s right: a pool floating on top of the world’s largest swimming pool — the ocean. However, one thing is already clear: both of these new resorts give “sleeping with the fishes” a whole new meaning.

THE OLD CLARE

The Hood For over a century, Chippendale was known as a half-square-mile nexus of iniquity. Today, its late-Victorian terraces are filling up with makers, bakers, artists, and chefs, while Kensington Street is being reinvented as a “lifestyle” laneway à la Melbourne’s.
The Heritage The hotel occupies two landmark buildings: the former Clare Hotel Pub (Functionalist style circa 1940) and Carlton & United Breweries HQ (late Oz-Victorian circa 1915); the former’s bar was an infamous boozer in Chippendale’s seedier days.
The Look Wall tiles, parquet floors, and the original moldings and beams at The Old Clare were all meticulously under-restored by local architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer. Mid-century chairs from owner Loh Lik Peng’s personal collection are found in nearly all 62 guest rooms.
The Food The Old Clare’s trifecta of restaurants—Jason Atherton’s Kensington Street Social, Silvereye (from ex–Noma sous-chef Sam Miller), and Automata (from Momofuku Seiobo vet Clayton Wells)—have raised Chippendale’s profile as much as the hotel has.

HOTEL PALISADE

The Hood Miller’s Point, an inner-city suburb between The Rocks and the newly developed Barangaroo Reserve, had been a scrappy longshoremen’s enclave, albeit characterized by seriously pretty Federation Filigree architecture; it’s now decidedly on the upswing.

The Heritage Built in 1912, the five-story Palisade Pub is another glorious relic of old Sydney, where, during World War I, Anzac soldiers shipping out to Gallipoli from Sydney Harbour came to sink their final points.
The Look Über-stylist Sibella Court was conscripted to renovate the pub and repurpose its utilitarian upper floors into nine unique guest suites, two private lounges, and a knockout rooftop bar for the Hotel Palisade. Think Soho House on an Olde Good Things budget, filtered through a sepia lens.
The Food Chef David O’Brien’s simple-yet-stellar menu—steak sandwiches, house-made salt-and-vinegar chips, and all the trad pub dishes you crave—keeps The Palisade’s spirit alive while famed mixologist Mikey Enright’s cocktails are fully of-the-moment.

Interior Design Trends for 2016 – Although the new 2016 is approaching rapidly the designer’s trends and specific stylistic of this year are so distinctive and with such richness of expressions, that no matter how many articles about the trends we research and publish there always will be something more to be said. And keep in mind – a lot of this style flows will transfuse into the next year’s trends.
*Written by: Miguel Costa
Amongst the many inspired changes inside and outside the houses that come this season some are very distinctive – first the strong vital, even playful colors make a huge come back, second the emphasis on environment and nature in unusual spaces – like the bathroom or kitchens – comes in addition to the strong presence of gardens and parks. But the innovations go far beyond. In the richness of the accessories, in the functionality and minimalistic of space arrangement and none the less in the nobility and glamor of the materials used – just a few hints – copper, brass and marble. But let’s take deeper and more detailed look into this trends development.

Colors and Materials
The color palette for this year is filled with shades of pink, red “meat” and peach. The designers do not hesitate to bet on colors that mark the new trends. The famous ‘pink mouth’ of makeup, without the gloss, invades the decor – the advantage of such colors is the possibility of being used in any room of the house in multiple combinations.
Accessories and objects will be marked and singled out by shades of green oil, navy, and deep blue – they convey calm and coolness into the premises. Like for example in the color composition project of Guilherme Torres Architects. The deep moody colors like black and purple (as we have mentioned in previous articles) are very cleverly combined with the shining surfaces of copper and brass defiles.
In this line of thought, a strong trend for 2016 is the visibility of materials such as brass, copper, wood and marble compounds in the design projects. The multiple usages of the glamorous copper and brass, their plasticity, and friendly characteristic make a rich field for art exploitation.

The decor projects for this year are filled with natural materials – for example as coatings cork and marble are coming back strongly, wood, stone, and raw concrete are also here with their timeless presence. Check out this beautiful “river and stream” inspired furniture of designer Enzo Berti. This exploration of what nature has to offer and its entwining in the house construct is a strong trend visible also in the wide usage of plant life and garden elements into the interior decor – a tendency we will examine further on.
The Arrangement of Space and Functionalism of Accessories

Another major change in the look of the houses is the presence of functional decorative objects. Soon there will be no room for useless items. It will become increasingly important to acquire objects that can be processed according to the time and space of the person’s life.
The minimalistic and clever usage and arrangement of spaces is also extremely important for the today dynamic lifestyle: The kitchen, for example, can be completely hidden to open additional space for entertainment or to pop-out present when needed. Nowadays we are moving towards a minimalistic model, whose quiet aesthetic allows us to escape the rush of the city. Playing with optical illusion in environments such as kitchen and bathroom, using wallpapers or green walls – everything is allowed to gain space and add charm.
The Taiwanese architects from Ganna Design Studio, for example, are great in functionalizing space and cleverly hiding the unnecessary.
The big change, however, is in the home environment that has gained an air of spa: the bathroom. It tends to turn into a relaxation area. Will be common to have benches and seats inside the bathrooms because – if you think about it – a lot of people see the bathroom as an intimate and functional setting – the truth is that we listen to music, read and relax in it.
So way not to turn it into a beautiful and welcoming garden? Ukrainian designer Olga Akulova has some very good hits in this sphere.

Nature and Lush Green Presence
The abundance of lush vegetation is definitely a trend but not only in bathrooms – in the focus of designers is the increased introduction of green plants and environmentally-friendly residences altogether. Urban gardens in the areas outside of the buildings and even inside of the living premises are strong presence lately. This is happening because in the focus of architects and designers is the welfare of the residents and the healthiest and most naturally suited house arrangement. Bring nature closer to the residents is not only beautiful, calming and enriching the spiritual life of the inhabitants experience but is also a practical solution to some problems.
Helping the natural house ventilation, humid control, and fresh air provides the natural plant life, green walls or simply lush pots decoration can bee also a lot of fun. Cultivating a vegetable garden, for example, is not only a great source of herbs, spices, and food ingredients but also a great learning experience for adults and children alike. And of course, the aesthetic and artistic value of a well-arranged garden is well known to humanity from the dawn of age. Some great examples of this entwining between architecture, design and gardening can be found in the works of O’Neill Rose Architects or Singapore design studio Park + Associates.
So in conclusion we may say that all these changes and trends in the interior design bring us closer to one more sophisticated, warmer and well-balanced place to inhabit where the colors (Gold and Pink, Orchid and Marsala) are playful, easygoing and artistic. Where the materials are noble and natural, the space arrangement and details are functional and minimalistic and of course the strong presence of plant life and green innovations bring our home closer to Nature in artistic and thoughtful way.
