A day at the spa is an undeniable luxury. But the benefits of a mineral soak, a deep-tissue massage or a reflexology session can go far beyond a gratuitous endorphins boost: For the athletically inclined, an indulgent spa treatment is restorative bodywork. From runners to golfers to skiers to surfers, athletes of all types and levels aim for maximum physical efficiency—and spas have stepped up to help.
With the arrival of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, also the football players need this hotel experience, which is essential for the mind to clear, allowing the athlete to focus on their own competitive or personal fitness goals. Whatever your preference, the best hotel spas for athletes are sure to keep you in the game.
Already home to two golf courses redesigned by owner and World Golf Hall of Fame member Johnny Miller, the spa at Silverado Resort helps golfers sharpen their game. The Golf Swing Therapy menu includes the Par for the Course massage, which zeros in on the muscles of the upper body to enhance range of motion using an invigorating sports balm. The Golfer’s Reflexology treatment utilizes reflex points on the hands and feet, releasing tension, increasing energy and restoring physical balance.
With its jungle-meets-coast location, Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo provides access to hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and more to its adventurous guests. The resort’s spa complements outdoor pursuits with a team of skilled physical therapists and other massage professionals who are certified in deep-tissue and Thai massage, the latter being a standout treatment here. Based on a 2,500-year-old technique, it is combined with stretching and performed on a large mat to help elongate the body and release tight muscles. Benefits include improved flexibility and range of motion and increased circulation.
Traveling to high altitudes can have a profound effect on the body. Add in multiple days of powder runs on Aspen’s four mountains and you have a body in need of adjustment and rejuvenation. Remède Spa at the St. Regis Aspen Resort focuses on treatments for skiers with its two-hour Sports Recovery Ritual, which begins with a stimulating exfoliation followed by an application of an anti-inflammatory herbal liniment. The final step is a therapeutic massage using a sports cream designed to reduce both muscle inflammation and stress on ligaments and tendons. Relax in the spa’s oxygen lounge to help increase red-blood-cell circulation and provide energy for the next session on the slopes.
The Miraval Life in Balance Spa offers a restorative Athlete’s Massage designed especially for bikers, hikers and climbers. The treatment combines intense, constant pressure with targeted stretching to relieve sore muscles and increase flexibility. Therapists use arnica oil, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, to increase muscle elasticity, encourage muscle recovery and repair the body for improved overall performance.
With Snow Canyon State Park and nearly 7,000 acres of red-rock canyons, cliffs, lava caves and volcanic cones in Red Mountain Resort’s backyard, it’s no wonder hiking is a popular activity at Red Mountain Resort. The Red Rock Hiker’s massage at the Sagestone Spa & Salon is a full-body treatment, with extra attention paid to the build-up of lactic acid in hikers’ legs. It uses a potent fusion of peppermint, clove and eucalyptus oils to relieve muscle and joint tension; a marine mudpack draws out toxins and improves circulation.
Lake Austin Spa Resort offers an ultimate way to restore the body after a long bike ride or hike. LakeHouse Spa’s Sports Soak blends mineral salts into a 58-jet hydrotherapy tub where athletes can ease muscle soreness and aid detoxification before a specialized massage. The vigorous massage incorporates rhythmic strokes and medium pressure to stimulate muscles, improve flexibility and flush away metabolic waste.
Mii amo is nestled among the red rocks of Boynton Canyon in Sedona, Arizona. Native Americans consider this a place of healing, which makes it a perfect location for a world-class destination spa. The Seven Canyons Champion is an epic experience perfect for golfers, runners, hikers and road cyclists—those engaged in sports that exert significant pressure on the feet. It begins with an hour-long hydrotherapy treatment, followed by an hour of full-body massage, and ends with a 30-minute reflexology session.
After an intense surfing session, guests at Travaasa Hana, Maui, can enjoy the Aquatic Renewal therapy at the spa in the island’s first resort aquatic therapy pool. During the session guests float and stretch in a trained therapist’s arms. The warm water supports the body evenly, releasing tension and producing a deep sense of renewed well-being.

Outdoor warriors from around the world visit Patagonia for its adventurous opportunities. Before or after excursions, they can visit Uma Spa for the Chua K’a massage—a foot-to-scalp treatment originated (legend says) by Mongolian warriors who prepared for battle with the ritual, using it to remove physical and psychic tension. Chua K’a unblocks and revitalizes energy in 27 areas of the body, combining reiki, Thai massage stretching and reflexology into one. It reduces pain, restores mobility and stimulates circulation and lymphatic drainage—all of which is particularly beneficial to those who glacier trek, ice climb and hike difficult routes in the Torres del Paine National Park, where the resort is located.
One of the signature treatments at the spa at Viceroy Snowmass is the Sami Zen Ritual. Created by Kerstin Florian, the Swedish founder of her eponymous skincare line used in spas around the globe, the ritual was inspired by the Sami people, who are indigenous to Scandinavia. Perfect for cross-country and alpine skiers, the treatment, meant to open energy pathways throughout the body, is set to two hours of traditional Nordicjoik music. A detoxifying exfoliation is followed by an herbal aromatherapy bath before the body is massaged to the music using sacred Arctic birch oil and botestenar—healing rose porphyry stones that reflect energy, purpose, clearing and release.

Hospitality design trends:101 Hotel Lobbies, Bars & Restaurants (published by Braun Publishing), is the second release in the “101” book series by interior architecture specialists Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk.
Following the duo’s comprehensive analysis of guestroom design in 101 Hotel Rooms, this new English language reference guide explores public spaces in hospitality venues through examples drawn from the diverse international portfolio which JOI-Design, their Hamburg-based studio, has built in its 20-year history.
The hotel lobby as reception area and gathering place is one of the most important and prestigious areas of a hotel. Initial contact with guests is made in this public space and it plays a major role in determining whether they will feel at home during their stay. In the same way as a restaurant or bar, the lobby serves a double function – it offers relaxation and communication.

This volume uses selected international projects by Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk to present a wide spectrum of different ways to design these key areas of a hotel. The various design concepts from these two renowned experts create authentic locations with their own, distinctive character. Whether it’s a venerable grand hotel, a trendy budget resort or a luxury boutique hotel – the right ambiance is created each and every time.
“Numerous photos, renderings, sketches, floorplans, and perspective drawings throughout the book’s 232 pages depict innovative ideas for hoteliers, architects, interior designers, investors, developers and students alike. Unusual finishes, dramatic lighting, stylish furnishings and carefully considered layouts come together in imaginative and witty forms to shape atmospheres which feel exclusive yet inclusive, all at the same time. As places to see and be seen, the flexibility to adapt to changing needs is vital. In a hotel lobby, for instance, a group meeting prior to a sightseeing trip might need to coexist with a single traveller wishing to check e-mails in privacy.” in Joy-Design Blog.
“Restaurants and bars should be designed with materials that will endure and be suitable for a high turnover of guests with all different kinds of needs and habits. Yet they also need to feel special and welcoming, like a beautiful home where people are invited as friends. Intimate nooks for private tête-à-têtes are balanced with buzzing social spaces.” in Joy-Design Blog
“Each scenario is filled with the imaginative nuances guests often discover upon second glance. It is this attention-to-detail which lingers in the mind, shaping an atmosphere that becomes a cherished experience. With 101 Hotel Lobbies, Bars & Restaurants, Peter Joehnk and Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk have not only illustrated a pictorial gallery of inspirational ideas, they have also created a guide that offers pioneering insight into modern lifestyles.” in Joy-Design Blog.

Dear Hotel Lovers,
Today we’re going to travel to the enchanted United Kingdom and see some of the most haunted hotels you can check in and be amazed. They will make you shiver in fright! Or just arouse your curiosity to try a different kind of hotel experience! Most of those most haunted hotels are castel hotels and can make us travel in time. Get to know these creepy hotel stories and find this kind of luxury travel available at the following spots:
1. Jamaica Inn, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall
Yes, it’s that Jamaica Inn, of Daphne Du Maurier fame. Unsurprisingly, the 250-year-old tavern hosts an extensive collection of smuggling paraphernalia. Less well known is its collection of other-worldly goings on: the inexplicable noises of cartwheels and horses’ hooves in the cobbled courtyard; footsteps in empty corridors; a gentleman in a tricorn hat who walks through walls; and a murder victim who calmly sits outside musing on something. For a guaranteed sleepless night, ask for bedroom four.
2. Chillingham Castle, Alnwick, Northumberland, England
Chillingham is famous for its moaning and whimpering Blue Boy. His bones and some scraps of blue clothing were discovered behind a wall where his cries have been heard, suggesting he may have been immured there. In the meantime, the rustle of a dress on the turret stairs heralds the passage of the restless spirit of Lady Mary Berkeley as she searches in vain for her husband (he ran off with her sister). Then of course there’s the white lady in the pantry, the voices in the chapel etc.
3. Talbot Hotel, Oundle, Northamptonshire, England
If celebrity ghost hunting is your game, head for the Talbot Hotel which, ironically for a fine Elizabethan house, is said to be haunted by Mary Queen of Scots. The hotel’s staircase used to adorn Fotheringhay Castle and Mary passed down it on her final walk to the executioner’s block. As you might expect in a 16th-century building, there are oak beams and transom windows abounding, and open fires to warm your chilled spine when you witness the doomed conspirator reliving her final steps.
4. Elvey Farm, Pluckley, Kent, England
Pluckley may look familiar as the setting for The Darling Buds of May but, according to the Guinness Book of Records, it’s also England’s most haunted village. Mediaeval Elvey Farm is slap bang in the middle of it and boasts beautiful bedrooms with ancient rafters and, if you’re lucky, a “weeping wanderer”. In the vicinity you might also encounter the unhappy wraiths of a schoolmaster, a soldier, a highwayman, a screaming man, a miller, Red Lady Derring, a white dog and many others besides, so don’t forget to pack a camera.
5. The Prince Rupert Hotel, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England
In need of an exceptionally grisly night? Try room six, where it is claimed the spectre of a hanging woman can often be seen. If that’s a little too much, you might prefer one of the other rooms in which visitors have merely reported the unexplained movement of objects. As the name suggests, the hotel used to be the home of Prince Rupert though guests can choose to plunge even further back in time in suites decked out in the manner of gracious 12th or 15th-century living.
6. Ruthin Castle, Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales
Any castle that sports a Drowning Pit, a Whipping Pit and dungeons is asking to be haunted, frankly. Add the execution of a jealous wife who had murdered her husband’s lover with an axe and the chances of the place not teeming with ghostly goings on is practically nil. At Ruthin – a brilliant red fort with over 400 years of grim history behind it – the Grey Lady can be seen roaming the battlements and chapel (sans axe, regrettably) whilst other areas of the castle are prone to mysterious noises, footsteps, inexplicable changes in temperature and the appearance of a spectral soldier.
7. Maes-y-Neuadd Talsarnau, Gwynedd, Wales
Not all apparitions aim to frighten, of course – this 14th-century granite manor house is home to a ghost who is really quite friendly. Maes-y-Neuadd’s Morfa Suite is the scene of many sightings of a woman thought to have been a children’s nursemaid. Rather than being terrified, guests claim they became very calm in her presence and found themselves drifting pleasantly off to sleep. If you don’t receive a visitation, you can at least console yourself the next morning with the hotel’s eye-easing views of Snowdonia.
8. Tulloch Castle Hotel, Dingwall, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland
Not one for the faint hearted, this – one guest reported waking up to feel two ghostly girls sitting on his chest in an apparent attempt to suffocate him. Others have seen figures at the foot of their bed and experienced nights disturbed by rattling door handles and other noises. There’s also a Green Lady who mopes about, having died falling down a spiral staircase. If this were not enough, the former castle, dating from the 12th century, also contains secret passages, a secret door and a secret tunnel to Dingwall Castle. Hard core paranormalists should ask for room eight.
9. Comlongon Castle, Clarencefield, Dumfries, Scotland
It was reported on September 25 1570 that the Lady Marion Carruthers “did willfully take her own life by leaping from the lookout tower of Comlongon Castle and did break her head and bones”. It’s no surprise to learn that grass refused to grow on the spot where the cruelly imprisoned wife struck the ground or that her sorrowful spirit still stalks this luxurious mediaeval castle on the Scottish borders. The fact that her ghost is green, smells of apples and moves jewellery around rooms is perhaps a little bit special. Marion hunters should request the Carruthers suite, her centre of operations.
10. Dobbins Inn, Carrickfergus, County Antrim, Northern Ireland
Built in the 13th century and one of Northern Ireland’s oldest pubs, the Dobbins has served as a gaol, an armoury, a post office and a safe haven for Catholics (the priest hole can still be seen in the reception area). However, none of this will be any consolation to Maude and Buttoncap. The former, the wife of Hugh Dobbins, fell for the latter, a soldier garrisoned in the castle across the road, and they would meet up via a secret tunnel. When Dobbins discovered them, he killed them both with a sword, though it’s only Maude who comes back to caress sleeping guests with her hand.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London – Tower of London, England

Cozy up in a blood-orange, cream, or copper leather chair and order traditional British pub fare — try Ploughman’s, a platter with ham, scotch egg, Duddleswell cheddar, onion chutney, hedgerow berry compote, and pickled onions — or a contemporary dessert (roasted coconut and meringue balls, anyone?)Missed your chance to travel to London in the summer? Skylounge is open year-round, thanks to an indoor bar area. You may be distracted by the views of London’s skyline, including the iconic Tower Bridge.

Highbar at Dream South Beach, Miami, Florida
Fresh off its July opening, Highbar — Dream South Beach’s brand-new rooftop bar — features 1970s-inspired décor, but with modern amenities (like a custom infinity-edge pool that glows with blue and purple lights at night) and food from the downstairs restaurant (Tudor House by celeb chef Geoffrey Zakarian).
Described as a contemporary take on the famed discotheque Studio 54 in New York City, the Lucite and glass tiles help promote a vintage vibe but the all-white structures (and two bed-size cabanas with flat-screen TVs) remind you that this is South Beach. In addition to drinks, food can be brought to you from Tudor House, ranging from upscale poolside snacks (poached tuna in a jar) to meatier options like organic buttermilk fried chicken or a Cuban-style pressed sandwich.
What to Order: Peggy’s Punch (Grey Goose Vodka, fresh watermelon, lime juice, and basil)

Level 3 at Four Seasons Hotel Denver, Colorado
The Mile High City’s latest high-altitude attraction — a third-story rooftop terrace with a pool — was revealed just before Memorial Day weekend. Outfitted with lounge chairs and beds with sun shields, Level 3 is typically reserved for hotel guests, except for Thursday nights when it’s a scene with 300 to 500 people.
A special menu from EDGE, the hotel’s steakhouse, includes lighter items such as spiked frozen “push-pops,” ceviche, grilled fish tacos, and key-lime tarts. During the day, complimentary flavored tea lollipops and smoothie shots are available poolside.
Because this rooftop bar is weather-dependent, the fun is not expected to last beyond Sept. 15 — so you better get to Denver soon.
What to Order: Clocktower Cooler (Patron Silver Tequila, lime juice, cucumber, agave nectar, Sprite, and mint), named after the views of Denver’s historic D&F Clocktower

Three Sixty Rooftop Bar at Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark, Missouri
Could this be the new premiere seating area to watch St. Louis Cardinals’ home games? (Busch Stadium is across the street.)
This 275-seat rooftop bar (with a wine wall and flat-screen TVs) is predicted to be the new hot spot in St. Louis — and not just in summer. When it’s too cold to even hang out next to Three Sixty’s fire pits, portions of the 6,000-square-foot space remain open as indoor bar areas are protected from the harsh winter.
Snacks are better than typical sports-bar fare: think truffle popcorn, roasted BBQ oysters, and local artisanal cheeses.
What to Order: The Big Canoe (Citrus vodka, honeydew melon, housemade orgeat, lime and basil)
More Info: www.360-stl.com.com
Ibiza at Hotel Andaluz, Albuquerque, New Mexico
While this 107-room hotel opened near Albuquerque’s Old Town in 2009, the rooftop bar didn’t reveal itself until April 2010. Named after the nightlife-centric island in Spain, Ibiza boasts a view of Albuquerque’s skyline — and the Sandia Mountains.
On weekdays, appetizers served at Ibiza during happy hour include flatbreads topped with Mediterranean-inspired ingredients; paella with black mussels, chorizo, pork loin, clams, rock shrimp and bay scallops; and a Croque Star sandwich with Spanish sweet-potato fries.
What to Order: White Wine Sangria

Le 360 at Radisson Blu 1835 Hotel & Thalasso, Cannes, France
Cannes gets a new sort of glitz with Le 360 at Radisson Blu, wedged between the city’s yacht harbor and a beach. An express elevator takes guests (including those not staying at the hotel) right up to the seventh floor where a rooftop terrace awaits.
Although this rooftop bar has been open since January when the hotel was rebranded, it wasn’t until this summer that a panoramic view of the bay of Cannes looked this good. After a day of touring local vineyards or chilling on the beach, Le 360 is the perfect place for a nightcap.
What to Order: a glass of Champagne Rosé

Blue Sky at Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok, Thailand
This 565-room hotel houses many cool spots — eight restaurants and two bars to be precise. But the hippest place for a drink is Blue Sky, its rooftop lounge on the 24th floor that debuted in December 2010. In addition to specialty cocktails, wine, beer, and a full bar, you can order tapas that range from grain-fed beef to desserts like Black Forest cake.
Decorated with cherry-red oval tables and art installations with a bluish glow, this outdoor bar is the best-kept secret in Bangkok — for the moment. Fortunately, during rain or cooler temperatures, the inside portion of Blue Sky remains open.

Lantern at The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore
Even as Lantern’s second summer draws to a close, the city’s pulse continues to throb up on the hotel roof top – The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore, in the Marina Bay waterfront area. Sample tapas (like mini Wagyu beef burgers), and enjoy live Latin music and DJ-spun tunes.
Orchestrated by a well-known designer in Asia (Andre Fu), Lantern has a swimming pool, a mixologist at the ready, vintage-inspired furnishings, and tropical-inspired landscaping. But it’s the 360-degree view of the city that sets this bar apart from the rest.
What to Order: Red Lantern (Don Julio Blanco Tequila, watermelon, cucumber, and lemon)

Rooftop Lounge at Thompson Toronto, Canada
Since opening in June 2010, the lounge has had two personalities: a poolside club during the day (complete with cabanas and an infinity-edge pool) and a nightclub vibe after dark. No matter what time of day or night you swing by, enjoy panoramic views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline.
Even when autumn arrives, this lounge is worth a visit: An indoor bar area is decked out with lots of windows and sleek décor (think black-and-white-striped couches and a black granite bar). Above all, exclusivity is flaunted here; you must be a hotel guest or member to enter.

On the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ official arrival in America, we’re retracing their steps—from New York to Miami—one screaming crowd and hotel room at a time. Talking about luxury travel and hotel experience, we like to connect hotels to iconic celebrities (see Where do celebrities sleep?) Of course, The Beatles are one good example of it.
While 4,000 fans waved the band goodbye at London’s Heathrow Airport, the screaming throng of 3,000 young girls who met their plane as it touched down at New York City’s JFK Airport wasn’t too shabby either. Photographer Harry Benson was there to capture the action, and later assembled his portraits into a limited-edition book for TASCHEN.
Next stop for John, Paul, George, and Ringo? The Plaza Hotel, which would become their home base while prepping for their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, on February 9, 1964. The broadcast would attract a record number of viewers—73 million in total. Crowds gathered outside the hotel to welcome the Fab Four.
The unprecedented viewership left The Ed Sullivan Show producers only one choice: to do it again! The very next week, and on location. So Sullivan and his crew headed for Miami Beach, where The Beatles performed one again a week later, on February 16th, at the Deauville Beach Resort.
When they weren’t rehearsing, the band members could be found taking advantage of the hotel’s beachfront location, and cozying up to the locals. In honor of the show’s 50th anniversary, the hotel is hosting a two-day concert, 1964: The Tribute.
Harry Benson had been with The Beatles in the days before their trip to America as well. In fact, it was in Paris—at the Hotel George V—that they learned (at 3 a.m.) they’d be headed to New York in a few days to perform, after “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” hit number one on the U.S. charts. They celebrated with a pillow fight.
It was also at the Hotel George V that the band composed the music and lyrics for “I Feel Fine.”
On September 10, 1964, The Beatles were back in Florida for a concert in Jacksonville. But Hurricane Isabel diverted their flight, and they ended up at the decidedly laidback Key Wester Motel in Key West, drinking and jamming with their opening acts. Though the hotel was eventually demolished to make way for the Hyatt Windward Pointe, its stop on The Beatles’ tour of America is still remembered. The hotel’s open-air recreational area is called Beatles Hut, where guests chow down on food from the Abbey Road Snack Shack.
The Beatles would continue to make their presence known at hotels around the world. On March 25, 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged a Bed-In — an anti-Vietnam protest that saw them inviting media to come and watch them lie in bed for a week — at the Hilton Amsterdam.
Today, an engraved glass room divider commemorates the celebrity protest that went down in room 702 nearly 45 years ago.
Wherever life will take you, there will always be a place to Amsterdam.
New York Design Agenda went to Amsterdam and brought us this great testimony about this luxury travel experience.
The charming Dutch city is all about romantic scenarios, beautifull water canals, friendly people and, of course, utterly charming hotels. Amsterdam leaves no space for romance, it’s pure hot love. An affair with luxury in the country of flowers.
Somewhere right next to the city center is the gorgeous The Toren Hotel. The amazing place we stood for two days. “Designed to Charm”, is probably the most accurated slogan for this fabulous boutique hotel. Whoever wants to be treated to a unique and memorable stay in Amsterdam should stay at The Toren Hotel.
The hotel is elegantly designed for an stunning experience of burlesque and dramatic interiors and very warm welcome, combined with the beautiful surroundings of Amsterdam’s central canal area create a special atmosphere for relaxation.
The Toren is placed amongst the grand 17th century canal houses of the Keizergracht. The well known interior designer Wim van de Oudeweetering took charge of creating a chic, theatrical and slightly mystical ambience, in which style, warmth and comfort unite. The 38 guest rooms are all different and vary from small and elegant to spacious and stunningly beautiful.
Accordingly to Priscilla Visser, the super charming and friendly, Guest Relations, The Toren Hotel goal is to create a “lush, romantic design with a very warm, welcoming and comfortable environment”.
Let’s check some of their unique and voluptous areas:
Reception
The moment you enter the reception you’ll see two great things: the most amazing and friendly staff; and, as well, a combination of textures and colors that immediately will blow your mind.
A strong character from strong colors, luxurious textures and powerfull details. Let’s go deeper on that with the rooms.
Executive Suite Room
The rooms are like poetry: classy beds and over-detailed consoles whom transport you to the XVII century with a lot of Victorian motives. The bathrooms are modern and super chic, proudly exhibiting an amazing combination of minimalistic showers and a glorious jacuzzi.
The Bar Lounge
Toren’s bar is a trip in time. Makes you want to have a gin in the most pure classic and exotic ambiance. Absolutely love every details.
This hotel has nothing to do with regular luxury hotel services. It’s totally unique in its own way of taking care of their guests. A 5-stars experience.
Let me share a little more of it’s history and location meaning.
Both canal houses are such unique buildings both from the 17th century and very delicate. Modern and luxurious touches are added whilst style respect the heritage of the building at all times.
One lovely detail includes the ceiling in the bar which has been painted by the students of Rembrandt. The most remarkable figure to have lived in the house was Abraham Kuiper, who lived from 1837 to 1920. He was the founder of the Dutch Antirevolutionary Party (ARP) and became Prime Minister for the Netherlands in 1901, after which he moved to The Hague. That is just one small part of the history of the canal property that is no known as the Toren Hotel.
I guess enough has been said. Mark my words: The Toren Hotel is the best place to stay to visit the lovely and biggest city of Netherlands: Amsterdam.

The St. Regis in New York partned once again with a great designer, this time was Dior (also has Tiffany and Bottega Veneta suites). The 1,700-square-foot signature suite pays tribute to the designer’s Montaigne headquarters in Paris. “ “whispering gray” shades throughout the room, bows on the entryway sconces—and adore the quintessential Louis XVI-style furniture with white carved-wood framing and gold leaf accents.”
Claridge’s, London and Diane Von Furstenberg
Von Furstenberg was one of the first designers to sign hotel rooms and suites. “In fall 2010, the Belgian-born businesswoman put her exuberantly patterned stamp on London’s Art Deco icon Claridge’s hotel, decking out 20 rooms and suites in full-on Furstenberg regalia.”
Le Notre Dame, Paris and Christian Lacroix
The famed French couturier completed yet another collaboration with a parisian hotel. This time was the Notre Dame Hotel, just a few steps from the Cathedral itself. “Each of its 26 rooms are decorated in an eclectic medieval-meets-modern fashion, with carpets that are meant to resemble paving stones, faux cowhide wallpaper, exposed beams and period artwork on the walls.”
Armani Hotel, Dubai and Milan and Giorgio Armani
Inside the world’s tallest builing, Giorgio Armani launched his first of seven hotels and resorts. “guests are immersed in the sophisticated Armani lifestyle: Room and public spaces, created with a minimalist modern aesthetic, feature Eramosa stone floors, zebrawood paneling, custom-created furnishings and accents.”
Tortuga Bay Resort, Punta Cana and Oscar de la Renta
Dominican fashion designer Oscar de la Renta signed a suite at Tortuga Bay resort in Punta Cana. His “sensibility is translated to the décor of a Caribbean beach resort with understated elegance. To harmonize with the exotic surroundings, de la Renta selected natural wicker and wood furnishings beautifully upgraded with Frette linens.”
Schlosshotel im Grunewald, Berlin and Karl Lagerfeld
Everyone know Karl Lagerfeld is an ecletic man and that is reflected in his designs. Lagerfeld restaured the Schlosshotel im Grunewald and gave it his own touch. ”The 54-room property, located just outside of Berlin in one of its most exclusive suburbs, was built a century ago as a palace for one of Kaiser’s confidantes and advisors.”
