Brise de printemps is an art installation created by Nina Helms and located in the Lobby Lounge of the luxury hotel. The piece features seven different sculpted interpretations of 438 dogwood flowers in various stages of a bloom cycle that seem to float across the wall. Each sculpture was created by hand, using classic sculpting methods with exquisite attention to detail and craftsmanship.

“I see the Loews Regency Hotel as a host and a catalyst for power and innovation. For the reemergence of this influential hotel I wanted to create a piece that interpreted that potential and transformation as captured in the simple beauty of nature. My ultimate goal in designing the sculpture was for guests to experience this feeling in an elemental form,” says Helms.

Helms strives to illustrate the beauty of natural forms in her imaginative designs. Each hand-sculpted piece she creates is an artistic expression of the subtle details and textures existing in nature.

“I love creating beauty for people. Each project is my creative interpretation of the client’s wishes. Seeing people’s smiles and sheer joy when they look at my work is why I do what I do,” says Helms.

The pieces used in this installation bring the entire nature theme together. The colors, materials set the mood for a space we all covet for our homes.

Mira Moon by Marcel Wanders & Yoo

In his collaboration with Yoo, Marcel Wanders’ interior design for this hotel property takes as its starting point the Moon Festival fairy-tale, a legend in Chinese mythology about the Moon Goddess of Immortality.

full-moon-bathroom_hi_3mb_625x604

Regarded by many as an anomaly in the design world, Marcel has made it his mission to “create an environment of love, live with passion and make our most exciting dreams come true.” His work excites, provokes, and polarises, but never fails to surprise for its ingenuity, daring and singular quest to uplift the human spirit, and entertain.

Updating this tale to suit a contemporary setting, the characters from the story are represented throughout the spaces and references to traditional Chinese culture are expressed through modern furnishings with antique Chinese fabrics and prints, peony flower wall details, tailored carpets, digitally composed Bisazza tile graphics and a ‘lucky charm’ feature wall in the lobby.

lobby2_3mb_625x781

Inspiration for the interior was also taken from traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Ceramics, carved timber and cut crystal are used throughout, creating a heady cultural mix which is made relevant today with a warm colour palette of orange, brown and light green. This combination of heritage with modern artistic expression is a hallmark of Marcel’s work; an approach which has given Mira Moon one of the most distinctive, vibrant hotel interiors in the region.

The Greenwich Hotel Penthouse

The Greenwich Hotel – TriBeCa Penthouse was created by Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki, in close collaboration with the hotel’s partners Ira Drukier and Robert De Niro.

Best-interior-designers-top-interior-designer-axel-vervoordt-50

Axel Vervoordt has earned renown as a collector, antiquaire, interior designer and, most recently, curator. He counts among his clientele royalty, rock stars, financiers, tech tycoons and artists.

Best-interior-designers-top-interior-designer-axel-vervoordt-53

The 6,800 sq ft suite was inspired by the TriBeCa neighborhood’s industrial past fused with the ancient Japanese aesthetic of Wabi. The Greenwich Hotel – TriBeCa Penthouse design incorporates the philosophical beliefs of Wabi: beauty found in imperfection and authenticity; Artempo – where time becomes art; and poor materials that are rich in spirit.Sustainable design is echoed throughout the interior and exterior space.

Materials like stone, steel and reclaimed wood were carefully selected and thoughtfully utilized in every area of the penthouse.“We want to express a tribeca character in the most humble way. because the architecture is so simple, it belongs as much to the past as to the future,” says designer Axel Vervoordt.

The Greenwich Hotel – TriBeCa Penthouse offers a large open floorplan with multi-purpose living spaces, including a separate living room and drawing room, a full sized chef’s kitchen, three fireplaces, two and half bathrooms and three bedrooms. The private outdoor gardens on two levels span over 4,000 sq ft and feature a spa pool and dining for 18 guests. The original copper roof of the building has been repurposed by an upstate New York artisan who handcrafted gourd-shaped light fixtures from this metal.

Mandarin Oriental by Patricia Urquiola

This Hotel is full of Urquiola’s work. Looking into the New Build hotel and were mesmerized by the whole project itself which was no surprise when we found out that the designer responsible is none other then (one of our truly favorites) Patricia Urquiola.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-9Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-10

She is an unique designer that has worked along major design firms which clearly have made a mark. Prior to setting up her own design studio in Milan, she managed De Padova firm’s new product development office, in collaboration with the designer and architect Vico Magistretti, she later headed Piero Lissoni’s design team for five years. An impressive journey leading up to this impressive project.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-11

This exquisite hotel for the elite is housed in the re-development and elegant mid-20th Century building located on Passeig de Gràcia, at the very center of Barcelona’s commercial and entertainment district.  It consist of 98 rooms, a 1,000sqm spa, choices among high quality restaurants, a roof top terrace pool with panoramic views and an exclusive 236sqm suite occupying the entire 8th floor. However talk does not impress us but interiors do. Interiors such as this.

This hotel is the epitome of contemporary design. Upon arrival you walk inside a world that presents exclusivity and uniqueness. With an atrium passage consisting of punched frameless glazed openings the atmosphere is fluid and clear.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-12

There is clear circulation guidance through the patterned dark floor guiding you to the welcome area. An area designed as a living space with the reception cleverly concealed behind the patterned see through panel. Through this approach as a guest you are immediately welcomed and invited to relax as opposed to facing a large check in desk reminding you that you are about to handle paperwork and waiting time. Throughout the public areas this notion of comfort, elegance and hospitality is present everywhere in the hotel. The most sought after seating area is the grand internal Mimosa garden which covers a 660sqm area for al fresco dining. There is however a different language present throughout the interiors according to the space’s function. This is cleverly achieved without dominating and secluding each area with a completely different design language.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-13

For example the bar retains this inviting comfort and exclusive ambience but at the same time it has been designed with a completely different essence giving a more atmospheric sharp and sexy approach to it. The concealed gold effect lighting surrounding the bar is what invites you to the space with its luminosity and subtle richness. Our most favourable area and the reason to what brought us to this project is of course the ‘blanc’ restaurant. An interior with a sculptural weaved surrounding frame which through the use of lighting reflects to the outside perimetric walls. A truly exclusive restaurant of its kind, which leaves you breathless. It offers everything that a guest is looking for in an interior. Neutral warm palette, element of surprise, inviting furniture / layout arrangement and ample of day light. It is safe to say that we are in love with this space.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-14

All of the above also apply to the bedrooms were we see a successful continuation of ideas in the design. A continuation that if we were to see random photos of the bedrooms and for example the bar we would know that these two interiors are part of the same project. Overall the interiors are kept clean cut, with the use of pure white as the general palette creating a relaxing, hygienic and inviting bedroom. There is however one element that brings in modernity and richness. This is the subtle yellow/gold glazed partitions leading to the bathroom. Once inside we have the presence somewhere on the walls of the grey palette, which with the combination of the glazing tones we feel acquainted with the interior as the overall idea is not foreign to us. The materials completely different but the design approach is consistent. The bedrooms overall have a clarity to them which even though the palette is mainly white through the furnishings and details they portray comfort and relaxation successfully, without giving an essence of coldness and modernity.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-15Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-16

The unique feature in this hotel is of course the 236sqm apartment like suite. Here Patricia Urquiola has combined sumptuous fabrics of leather, velvet and exquisite silks along with elegant woods and a rich palette of green, black and gold to create a sophisticated and vibrant living space. In the suite from the beautiful Tai Ping silk and wool rugs to the Bassano ceramics and statement pieces of furniture, these all have been designed exclusively for the hotel by Patricia Urquiola working with renowned brands such as B&B, Moroso and Molteni. The result is a stylish blend of simplicity and sophistication effortlessly mixing Mediterranean influences with a subtle Asian touch that can be perceived in the ordered layout of the rooms and in the large cotton screens that have become a symbol of Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona. As well as exquisite interior design, the Penthouse Suite provides its guests with the most exclusive services including a 24-hour dedicated butler service and private lift with direct access from the lobby to the suite’s large reception hall, guaranteeing the minimum of fuss and maximum discretion.

Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-17Best-Interior-Designers-Mandarin-Oriental-in-Barcelona-Patricia-Urquiola-yatzer-18

This project is one of the successful endings to this year. It reminds us that design has no barriers and that all can be successfully created, by knowing how to retain that subtle balance which if achieved you reach near perfection. It is a project that reminds us of nothing of its kind and inspires us. It is a project that is simply great.

Hotel Plaza Athénée by Patrick Jouin

A new look  has been created for the bar and restaurant at the Plaza Athénée in Paris by the Jouin Manku design studio. Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku worked in a way similar to the great fashion designers by surrounding themselves with the most talented craftspeople to make every detail of the bar and restaurant a part of the vision.

The only element retained from the restaurant’s former design is the ceiling chandelier which is now reflected in the polished stainless steel domes on the floor.Best-interior-designers-top-interior-designer-Patrick-Jouin-1

These domes are an elegant twist on the traditional domed plate cover  made by ‘Meilleur Ouvrier de France’ – Matinox and Atelier Pierre-Yves Le Floc’h.

A striking timber alcove wraps itself around a single table and creates privacy. The outside of the alcove is in unfinished timber, made of strips of curved oak joined together in a shape similar to he hull of a fishing boat. Its inner surface of moulded plaster is finished with an imprint resembling the shape of a mushroom, taken from the restaurant’s old screens that were decorated with vegetables.

Aspen is a very unique place in the world – a physical and cultural paradise that is inspiring in itself. The hotel emulates what is unique about the region and making the building feel more a part of its natural surrounding was core to the design team’s perspective. The team focused on enhancing the feeling of the indoor/outdoor connection, bringing natural light into the space and creating a design that encouraged guests to engage with the environment.

In fact, the design was directly inspired from the colors and seasons of Aspen – looking out in the summer onto brilliant green grasses, blue skies and this unusual color of light violet gray that permeates like nowhere else in the world. Even the furniture in the lounge is arranged in such a way to encourage guests to take refuge by the fireplace and large windows and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of their surroundings.

The floor plan was completely restructured to allow panoramic views of the mountain from anywhere in the hotel and to improve operations and guest accommodations. Through the dark metal frame glass doors, the entry vestibule invites guests into a large, open reception area with views of the mountain the moment you step inside. The chandeliers that hang in the reception area are a reminder of the class, sophistication and history of the address and provide a welcoming glow upon arrival.

Emulating a guest suite in a historic late 19th century mountain manor, a subtle mix of winter grays and summer warm tones blend the room with striking outside views and natural textures to create a rustic, yet sophisticated environment. Drawing inspiration from Cuba and Latin America for the palette of weathered bright colours and patterns, materials used in the project include salvaged timber from Wyoming, encaustic floor tiles from a church in Spain, vintage barber chairs from upstate New York and many reclaimed fixtures throughout the space.

The Conservatorium is on the site formerly occupied by Amsterdam’s Sweelinck Music Conservatorium. Originally built as the Rijkspostspaarbank at the end of the 19th century, the building was conceived by the renowned Dutch architect Daniel Knuttel. It heralded the regeneration of the Museumplein, an area previously derelict.

Knuttel was praised for his ability to fuse simplicity and functionality, and the award-winning Milan-based furniture and interiors designer Piero Lissoni has embraced this tradition through the re-incarnation of this spectacular building 100 years later.

Known for his austere lines, demure fabrics and shades of grey with occasional bright accents, Lissoni is considered one of the most prominent and exciting contemporary Italian designers. His clean designs are a hybrid of modernist and contemporary chic and contrast playfully with natural daylight throughout the building’s spaces.

In a charmingly whimsical way Marcel Wanders integrates a Swiss essence in the design of the hotel’s rooms and suites when he allusively highlights Switzerland as the country producing both the best chocolate and the best investors: The partition wall to the bathroom echoes the shape of a chocolate and the handle is reminiscent of a safe.
