Hotel Interior Design is what we love! Today we bring you some inspiration from one of the best interior designers.
Kelly Wearstler is an American designer known for her multifaceted, experiential residential, hospitality, commercial, and retail environments, as well as her extensive collections of lifestyle product designs.
Kelly Wearstler’s design is motivated by a strong desire to communicate a distinct story and a formidable point of view.
Founded in 1995 as an interior design studio, the Los Angeles-based firm has evolved into an interdisciplinary global lifestyle brand that is leading the contemporary design conversation with experiential residential, hospitality, commercial, and retail destinations, as well as an extensive portfolio of home product designs and brand collaborations.
The Kelly Wearstler studio is made up of a multidisciplinary team of designers and architects who are obsessed with detail and creative expression. The studio’s creative cross-pollination naturally informs our architecture and interiors projects, as well as furniture, lighting, textiles, home décor, and product designs of all scales.
Kelly Wearstler creates a singular, synchronized experience based on an alchemy of design, from interior design and architecture to creative direction and brand identity.
Wearstler’s design approach is centred on a multi-layered, stimulating sensory experience. She curates a wealth of experiences into each space through an exploration of materiality, colour, forms, and an intuitive juxtaposition of contemporary and vintage, architectural and organic, graphic and instinctual.
Santa Monica Proper
The Proper brand embodies a ‘looser’ kind of luxury design, tapping into the local and surrounding culture in a way that appeals to long-term stays and staycationers just as much as holiday visitors.
Kelly Wearstler took lead from classic Santa Monica history, both visual and cultural, throughout the hotel that enhances a very modern design. Striking objects dot the public spaces, a result of custom collaborations with L.A. artisans for original artworks and monolithic installations, including Ben Medansky, Morgan Peck, Tanya Aguiniga, Len Klikunas, and Bradley Duncan.
An assemblage of both new and vintage pieces add to the layered aesthetic and sense of the unexpected. In this Boutique Hotel, interior designer, Kelly Wearstler’s signature flair for eclectic materials and textures are restrained within a neutral palette.
Private spaces relate to Santa Monica’s iconic coastal lifestyle and unique design, featuring a multifaceted mix of organic tones and textures. 271 rooms are split across two separate wings, one contemporary and the other more retro, set within the original Spanish Mission building.
In the retro wing of this luxury hotel, Kelly Wearstler plays up the throwback aspect with floral wallpaper, deco lights, and peach skirting. The contemporary wing is more, well, contemporary, some with exposed concrete walls, easel-mounted flatscreens, and sculptural mid-century furniture.
