Minos Beach Art Hotel opened its doors in 1963 at the start of Greek’s tourism golden ages when the country was starting to become one of the favourite destinations for the international jet-set crowd. The hotel has a laidback boho style with wood and glass elements mixed with mineral colours. The stone-paved walkway looping along the extensive seafront gives a wonderful sense of space.

Artwork inspired by natural surroundings and the island’s heritage has been specially created for the hotel and its garden. Guests can find some G.&A Mamidakis Foundation art collection is found in the hotel and its Open Art Air Museum, while muted colours, tactile fabrics, natural woods, and the occasional artefact from a bygone era keep things minimalistic, inside and out. Sound and nature also play a key role in the design: trickling water soothes the mind and a lonely piano invites the creative flourish of a passerby.

The Minos Beach Art Hotel has one hundred and twenty-six exterior rooms, bungalows, suites and villas designed with modern lines with blond wood elements, wicker baskets and earthy ethnic prints thrown into relief by powder-white walls. Bathrooms have trough sinks and spacious rain showers – some rooms have bathtubs. All rooms have terraces and most have a sea front view.

The hotel has three restaurants, four bars and a kafenio – a traditional coffee shop – lead by the award-winning chef Giannis Baxevanis. Guests have an abundance of options from Greek and Cretan cuisine, from the pool bar to the seafront wine bar to the alfresco dining or a more formal dining experience at La Bouillabaisse.
