Charlotte Moss

Charlotte Moss, who began her career on Wall Street, understands both traditional decorating concepts and the needs of a modern household. The Richmond, Virginia native who has relocated to New York likes flowers and is not afraid to add a touch of glamour. However, she makes the traditional feel new, as proven by her own rustic-meets-refined Aspen ski lodge.

Cullman & Kravis Associates

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Cullman & Kravis Associates

Brooklyn-raised Ellie Cullman (whose family owns the famous Peter Luger steakhouse) founded the storied design studio noted for its fashion-forward, modern look – catalogued in the design book From Classic to Contemporary. Tour this house in New Jersey’s horse country to see some of her firm’s dazzling work.

Darryl Carter

Darryl Carter, a former lawyer, creates cold, quiet, and collected environments that are unique in their masculine rigour. Carter’s projects have smart neutral fabrics, dark wood furniture, and bold silhouettes – yet, as his townhouse and this Virginia home for clients demonstrate, he is a master at defying the rules with style.


Timothy Haynes and Kevin Roberts are the founding partners of Haynes-Roberts, an interior design firm that specialises in high-end residential projects. The end effect is a modern distillation of classic style that is simple, elegant, and loaded with cutting-edge art, much like their own New York loft.


India Mahdavi

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – India Mahdavi

Born in Tehran, architect and designer India Mahdavi uses rich, complementary colours in both her commercial and residential projects. She brings humour and vibrant style to everything she designs, from restaurants to furniture and accessories, and her retail shops are a must-stop in Paris.

Jacques Garcia

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Jacques Garcia

The French designer, noted for his melancholy rococo style and aristocratic clientele, has designed hotels all around the world, including La Reserve Paris Hotel and Spa and Hotel Fouquet, both in Paris. Last year, he designed a museum annexe across the street from Serge Gainsbourg’s house, which recently opened to the public.

Jacques Grange

Kelly Behun, an interior designer from Pennsylvania who migrated to New York City and trained under Philippe Starck, is well-known for her extremely personalised creative process. Her ambitious concept for art enthusiasts in Manhattan graced the cover of our March 2024 “Art Issue.”

Known for her designs for the Viceroy and Proper hotel brands, she is still in demand for residential projects such as this recent Toronto stunner.

Michael S. Smith

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Michael S. Smith

It’s no surprise that the Obamas hired Michael S. Smith to help with the decor while they were in residence at the White House. The California designer has a curator’s understanding of history and antiquities, resulting in a seamless marriage of European classicism with American modernism. Cindy Crawford hired him; many would if they could.

Paolo Moschino Ltd.

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Paolo Moschino Ltd.

In 1995, designers Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen bought Nicholas Haslam Studio, a legendary London design studio. The designers’ 2023 book, Entertaining Life: Designing Town and Country, exemplifies their european aesthetic. Their most recent move: a new alliance with Bunny Williams Home.

Peter Marino Architect

Who would you call if you were Tiffany, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, or Graff? Architect Peter Marino is frequently mentioned. Marino’s architecture and interiors are infused with fashion elements. He is a collector of modern art and ornamental things who maintains his foundation in Southampton, New York, and this year will exhibit his work in the gallery he created for Tiffany’s Landmark.

Pierre Yovanovitch

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Pierre Yovanovitch

Inspired by his early work fashioning garments, the Paris-based designer has found a great fit creating modern interiors under his namesake brand, which he launched in 2001. He has opened a new furniture gallery in Manhattan. Visit his 17th-century Chateau in Provence.


Robert Couturier

What did this Manhattan-based interior designer who was born in France do after selling his long-time house in Connecticut? Of course, he returned to his origins by purchasing and restoring a 17th-century manor in Normandy, France. The sumptuous results (some chairs belonged to Marie Antoinette) demonstrate why Couturier is the designer of choice for clientele such as Frederic Fekkai and Anne Heard.

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Roman and Williams

Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, the firm’s founders, began as movie production designers. Their firm now serves clients ranging from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to London’s NoMad hotel. Their downtown store R&W Guild (and its restaurant La Mercerie) are must-sees for anybody visiting New York for design.

Romanek Design Studio

Brigette Romanek, a self-taught Chicago native, specialises in giving her entertainment customers’ venues a calm California elegance. She also creates furniture and has expanded her portfolio with projects such as AP House, a West Hollywood apartment she designed for watchmaker Audemars Piguet.

S.R. Gambrel

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – S.R. Gambrel

Steven Gambrel builds timeless, comfortable homes that improve with age, whether it’s a cosy Manhattan apartment, a Malibu hacienda, or an Art Deco Chicago property. In addition to his interior design work, he has worked with companies such the Urban Electric Co.

Sheila Bridges Design

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Sheila Bridges Design

Sheila Bridges, one of the country’s leading decorators, was chosen to design Vice President Kamala Harris’ official apartment. Elle Decor has featured her houses, including her Harlem brownstone in 2005 and her Hudson Valley home. If that wasn’t enough, the designer’s renowned Harlem Toile de Jouy has been featured on everything from Wedgwood crockery to Converse trainers, and it has made history by being added to the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum collection.

A recipient of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, SheltonMindel has a large client list that includes Darren Star and John Atwater and Diana Nelson. Lee F. Mindel, the firm’s principal, recently created a modest Palm Beach cottage for a Manhattan customer.

Stephen Sills has a thorough understanding of design history as well as an instinctive awareness of contemporary needs. Studio Peregalli Sartori

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Studio Peregalli Sartori

Roberto Peregalli and Laura Sartori Rimini, also known as Studio Peregalli Sartori, specialise in historically significant baronial rooms. The company’s American projects include a Manhattan apartment for Hamish Bowles and a Gramercy Park mansion for artist John Currin.

William Sofield, of Studio Sofield, is a modernist by nature and a historicist by training. His work is distinguished by a comprehensive approach that considers the essentials of life. His work includes residential skyscrapers in Manhattan, as well as shops and offices for Bottega Veneta, Harry Winston, Gucci, and other brands.


ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – TenBerke

Deborah Berke is one of architecture’s most powerful figures. She founded her practice in 1982, and her works include New York’s Marianne Boesky Gallery and 40 East End Avenue. In 2016, she became the Yale School of Architecture’s first female dean. The firm has since grown into TenBerke, a “creative collective” of architects.


Tom Scheerer

Tom Scheerer has completed projects in New York City, East Hampton, New York, Nantucket, Massachusetts, Aspen, and the Bahamas. He focuses on furniture layout, spatial relationships, colour, and texture, and he is proficient in a variety of styles within the context of what he terms comfortable modernity.

Toshiko Mori Architect

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Toshiko Mori Architect

For the past four decades, architect Toshiko Mori and her company have designed sensitive, environmentally conscientious structures all around the world. The company’s projects include a cultural centre in Senegal and a tourist centre for Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House in Buffalo, New York.

Veere Grenney Associates

Veere Grenney, is a British interior designer, with over 30 years of expertise in the profession. He worked as a director for Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler before starting his own company. Recent projects include a luxurious private property in Belgravia, London. He also owns a fabric and furniture collection.

Vicente Wolf Associates

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen, a Belgian-born architect, founded his firm in 1990 and designs high-end residences all over the world, with a focus on showing the interaction between architecture, interiors, and product design. He is the creative director of Molteni&C and has an ongoing collaboration with Zara Home.

Williams Lawrence, Inc.

ELLE DECOR A-List 2024 – Williams Lawrence, Inc.

Bunny Williams and Elizabeth Lawrence, the key designers behind the newly rebranded business, are all about classic comfort, an informed eye, and a touch of fun. In their spaces, beautiful European antiques coexist with mirrored walls and daring artwork; they use vivid colours and delicate patterns with equal aplomb.
