The Aman Hotel is the only hotel in the city with a water-facing garden to the Gran Canal. The garden’s green space is the only one of the ways in which the property shows its dedication to peace and calm – staying true to the hotel’s name aman – meaning peace, shelter and safety in eight different languages.
Originally built in the mid-16th century by the Coccina family as a palace, the building has evolved and changed owners over the centuries until the final owners – the Arrivabene family – took over. Subtly intensifying the atmosphere of a private home is the fact that the clan’s descendants, Count Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga and his family, still reside on the top floor. The historic hotel is so captivating that even Hollywood power couple George and Amal Clooney chose the ultra-luxe venue as the site for their September 2014 wedding reception.

The rooms have a 19th century aesthetic with tapestry-draped windows, brocade clad walls, antiques and Biedermeier-style furniture. Each room varies slightly to ensure a unique charm, but the bathrooms — ornamented in pink Carrara marble —consistently offer a generous amount of space.
