The Modernist Hotel Athens offers a unique hospitality experience at the heart of the historical centre of Athens. The Modernist Athens is sister to the award-winning Modernist Thessaloniki, being the second landmark in the expanding hospitality brand created by Kostis Karatzas.
The Modernist Athens maintains the same playful nearness of art deco elements with mid-century detailing and Scandinavian design found in Modernist Thessaloniki. Located in the former Canadian Embassy in Kolonaki, a high-end neighbourhood, Modernist Athens welcomes guests in a relaxed, elegant environment.

The Modernist Athens‘ building has the minimalism of post-war architecture from the 1950s harmonised with the subtle sleek contemporary spaces. Staying true to the brand’s design philosophy, the Modernist Athens is a sight to behold amidst the cityscape.
Upon the hotel entrance, guests are met with a contemporary mix of hues and materials, which include marble, plaster, bronze and black glass. The breakfast buffet, located on the ground floor, doubles as an all-day cafe bar. The hotel’s common areas are complete with the rooftop garden, which has an open cinema, and beautiful views of Athens and the Acropolis.

The Modernist Athens has thirty-eight rooms divided into four categories: small, medium, large and extra-large, making it easier for guest to pick the one that best fits their individual needs, and the latter rooms (the extra-large) have a private jacuzzi. Most of the furniture, lighting and uniforms of both Modernist hotels are custom-made by local artisans.
‘The Modernist is about contemporary hospitality that inspires curiosity and authentic experiences,’ says Kostis Karatzas about the project. ‘Ethics and aesthetics course through everything we do, as an invisible thread that connects us with the world. Following the opening of our first property in Thessaloniki two years ago, Athens was a natural next step for us. and this is only the beginning for our brand.’
