Blakes Hotel was composed by the famous interior designer Anouska Hempel back in 1978. The uniqueness of the designer is present in the uniqueness of the hotel, designed with influences from India, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Egypt and Italy.
Blakes Hotel is located in Kensington, London, United Kingdom, however, when we step inside the hotel we feel transported elsewhere: every room is furnished with period furniture from the countries Anouska Hemple has collected on her travels; the rooms are also decorated with art and artefacts which elevate even more to a truly unique experience.
The Blakes Hotel has a bohemian vibe with a side of luxury with black lacquer and gold detailing, a monochrome harlequin pattern painted across the lobby and restaurant flooring, and spaces that vary in narrative from vintage gentleman’s club to Venetian brothel. The hotel’s building is a put-together of old Victorian houses, with maze-like corridors and grapefruit scented candles.
None of the 45 rooms at the Blakes Hotel is the same: the Cardinal Suite is all designed in red with framed botanical illustrations and antique fabrics, the Corfu Suite is all white and each of the Luxury Double Rooms differ in style.
The hotel’s striking Blakes Restaurant and Blakes Below Bar regularly attract famous movie stars and designers. With a Mediterranean-inspired menu using the freshest ingredients, the Blakes Restaurant was inspired by Anouska Hemple‘s vision of a steamer sailing up the Bosphorus. The Blakes Below Bar offers a distinct Asian inspired design and a one-of-a-kind experience with privacy and exclusivity.
Anouska Hempel is the celebrated and acclaimed British interior designer who writes a story wherever she goes, leaving a bit of her personality in each place. Internationally recognised and honoured by the press, Anouska Hempel is considered a benchmark in its field of action: the interior designer, exteriors and product designer, architecture and fashion couture visionary. Her philosophy comes from her own lifestyle which is utopian. A fusion of West meets East pervades her design whether it is a classical or contemporary feel. She leads a team of architects and designers able to provide all aspects of architectural, interior, product and landscape design services.
