Floating and Submarine Hotels Could Be Coming Soon

Floating and Submarine Hotels Could Be Coming Soon – The next hotel trend is forming quite swimmingly. In the past weeks, two potential resorts have announced plans to create floating and submarine hotels, blowing just about every room with an ocean view out of the water. And following this trend, Hotel Interior Designs wants to show you the Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel, a completely submerged 28 feet under water that received patent and trademark approval. Take a look!

Across the Atlantic, a London designer released his concept for a “floatel” that moves with the ocean’s waves. Coasting along the top of the water, the resort is made up of little pods, channeling an ultra-modern outer-space-turned-marine design, and would move slower than the average boat.

Not only is the submarine hotel a novel concept, it helps the environment, too, and is part of a coral reef restoration project around the world. Costing just less than $20 million to build, the hotel would pass an electric current through seawater, which encourages the formation of white limestone (calcium carbonate) structures, which in turn attract coral.

Technically classed as a vessel, the underwater hotel will be able to change location in case of storm, and its developers have already reached out to a number of Caribbean countries potentially interested in temporarily hosting the unique travel experience. Each guest room will have panoramic views of the surrounding oceanic environment.

The Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel may be closer to coming to fruition, but the floating hotel offers cruise-lovers the best of both worlds. Called the MORPHotel, designer Gianluca Santosuosso expects it will cover a half-mile and will comprise connected pods, each housing different amenities like a helipad, restaurants, guest rooms, and even a pool.

That’s right: a pool floating on top of the world’s largest swimming pool — the ocean. However, one thing is already clear: both of these new resorts give “sleeping with the fishes” a whole new meaning.

Part of the Manta Resort in Zanzibar, it doesn’t come cheap, with rates starting at $1,500 (£1,000) a night, but this is a room with a serious view. The private floating island has three levels, so you can lie in bed and watch shoals of fish swimming past before hopping above deck and jumping in the Indian Ocean to join them. It sits 250 metres from the shore – a two-minute boat ride from the main Manta Resort.

If Zanzibar doesn’t appeal, though, there are other underwater hotel rooms that might float your boat. Atlantis The Palm, Dubai, has two subaquatic suites with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the lagoon. Over in Fiji, the Poseidon Underwater Resort has been in the works for several years, with plenty of CGI images, but no opening date in sight.
