Gramercy Park’s genteel glamor is a rare feat. Set in one of the most coveted areas of Manhattan, Julian Schnabel has transformed the sophisticated charm of the storied Gramercy Park Hotel into a full-fledged work of art. The legendary hotel has, for almost nine decades, opened its doors, night after night, to international artists, literati, fashion designers and intellectuals. Today, a lushly landscaped rooftop garden, al fresco dining and engagingly designed interior spaces offer guests many evocative places to dine or linger over drinks. Guests also have exclusive access to the leafy Gramercy Park, New York’s only private park.

Crosby Street hotel adds another layer of vibrancy to the historic cast-iron buildings and cobble-stoned streets of downtown Manhattan. Located at the creative pulse of the city that never sleeps, Crosby Street Hotel marks the first American venture of Tim and Kit Kemp, perennial darlings of the London hotel world. Built from scratch on the site of a former parking lot in SoHo, each of the 86 rooms are one-of-a-kind, and the upper floor suites offer unparalleled luxury and an impeccable 360° view of one of the world’s most vibrant and glamorous skylines. The Crosby Bar, with beautiful gray oak floors, a long pewter bar, and broad windows and doors facing a lush courtyard sculpture garden, juxtaposes the best of UK and NY traditions: afternoon tea and the perfect cocktail.

Imagine New York of the 1980s with its tremendous art, early hip hop, and punk rock scenes. Then translate that vitality to a hotel on the Lower East Side. Put together you get The Ludlow Hotel. The love child of of New York hoteliers Sean MacPherson, Ira Drukier, and Richard Born, the hotel also evokes the neighborhood’s rich history—from the “Gangs of New York” era to Jewish immigration to the wild art and music scenes. The stunning result is seen as soon as you walk through the steel and glass doors of the lobby into a lounge with oak-paneled walls, antique chandeliers, and Parisian- and New Orleans-inspired craft cocktails. The 184 rooms have a lofty industrial vibe with big casement windows, furry throws on chairs, and lavish bathrooms. And the hotel’s eagerly awaited restaurant, Dirty French by Major Food Group, serves Gallic classics with a New York sensibility.

Andaz on Fifth Avenue opened recently, but became very popular very quickly. It’s subtly designed with classic pieces, and a mix of blacks, browns, and metals for a sophisticated look.

The Standard Hotel

The Standard hotel always offers a fabulous time! It has two locations, one in Meatpacking and one in the East Village. While we love the Biergarten in Meatpacking the East Village has a more relaxed vibe, which is more my style.
